Getting Started

There are 3 variables...
ink, nib and paper.

I have used sumi ink for years---before that, while taking classes, Higgins
eternal was the standard (still is for teachers).

Nibs need to be cleaned when new---soft cloth or soft toothbrush and
gentle soap works; dry and then use. Some sharp nibs will 'cut' into
paper surface, pick up loose fibers and cause feathering.

Paper will cause feathering...bleeding... pooling, depending on surface and composition. Ink jet paper (inexpensive, used to taking wet
liquids) is great for practice; Kodak Brite white is also good. NOT
recycled papers. Try some different papers... see what works best.

This is a sample of the hints and tips listed in the additional section for ACA members only.
